# What is Da Vinci Surgical System?

> A robotic-assisted surgical platform manufactured by Intuitive Surgical, used to perform minimally invasive procedures such as robotic prostatectomy through small incisions.

The da Vinci system translates a surgeon's hand movements at a console into scaled, tremor-filtered movements of instruments inserted through small ports, giving a magnified 3D view of the surgical field instead of a large open incision. It is one of the most widely used robotic-surgery platforms globally, and is the kind of system behind robotic-assisted procedures such as nerve-sparing radical prostatectomy.
