# What is EGFR mutation? Source: https://oncologyistanbul.com/glossary/egfr-mutation > A change in the EGFR gene found in some lung cancers that makes tumor cells more targetable by a specific class of drugs (EGFR inhibitors). EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor) is a protein that, when a tumor's copy of its gene carries certain mutations, drives abnormal cell growth. Testing tumor tissue (or sometimes blood) for these mutations is standard for non-small-cell lung cancer, because EGFR-mutated tumors respond to EGFR-inhibitor drugs that EGFR-negative tumors generally do not. ## Related - [Lung cancer treatment](https://oncologyistanbul.com/cancers/lung) - [Targeted & Hormone Therapy](https://oncologyistanbul.com/treatments/targeted-therapy) Full glossary: https://oncologyistanbul.com/glossary
