# What is Graft-versus-host disease (GvHD)? Source: https://oncologyistanbul.com/glossary/graft-versus-host-disease > A complication of allogeneic (donor-cell) transplant where the donor's immune cells attack the recipient's own tissues. Because allogeneic transplant introduces a donor's immune system into the recipient's body, that new immune system can sometimes recognize the recipient's healthy tissue as foreign and attack it. Preventing and managing GvHD is a standard, expected part of allogeneic transplant care, monitored closely during the isolation-ward period. ## Related - [Blood cancer treatment](https://oncologyistanbul.com/cancers/blood) - [Bone marrow transplant](https://oncologyistanbul.com/treatments/bone-marrow-transplant) ## Authoritative references - [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graft-versus-host_disease) - [Wikidata](https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1194520) Full glossary: https://oncologyistanbul.com/glossary
