# What is Molecular / genomic tumor profiling?

> Laboratory testing of a tumor's DNA to identify specific mutations that may be targetable by particular drugs or that affect prognosis.

Beyond standard pathology, molecular profiling sequences genes within the tumor itself to look for actionable mutations (such as those relevant to targeted therapy or immunotherapy eligibility). It is increasingly used for brain tumors and other cancers where the result can materially change the recommended treatment plan.
