# What is PET-CT?

> A combined imaging scan that shows both the body's structure (CT) and areas of abnormal metabolic activity (PET), used to find and stage cancer.

PET-CT fuses two scans into one: a CT scan for detailed anatomy, and a PET scan that highlights tissue with unusually high metabolic activity — often, but not always, cancer. It is commonly used for staging (checking whether cancer has spread) and for checking how a tumor is responding to treatment.
