# What is TrueBeam / TrueBeam STx?

> A linear accelerator (linac) radiotherapy system manufactured by Varian, used to deliver external-beam treatments including IMRT, VMAT, and SBRT.

TrueBeam generates and shapes high-energy X-ray beams that are aimed at a tumor from multiple angles while sparing surrounding healthy tissue, guided by imaging taken immediately before each session. The STx configuration adds features aimed at higher-precision stereotactic treatments (SRS/SBRT) for small, well-defined targets, in addition to standard IMRT/VMAT courses for larger treatment volumes.
