# What is VATS (video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery)? Source: https://oncologyistanbul.com/glossary/vats > Minimally invasive chest surgery performed through several small incisions using a thoracoscopic camera, instead of a large open incision. VATS is used for lung procedures such as lobectomy, allowing the surgeon to operate while viewing the chest cavity on a monitor. Compared with open thoracotomy, it is generally associated with less pain and a faster return of lung function for eligible tumors. ## Related - [Lung cancer treatment](https://oncologyistanbul.com/cancers/lung) - [VATS lung lobectomy price](https://oncologyistanbul.com/prices#vats-lung-lobectomy) ## Authoritative references - [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video-assisted_thoracoscopic_surgery) - [Wikidata](https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4011425) Full glossary: https://oncologyistanbul.com/glossary
