EGFR mutation

EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor) is a protein that, when a tumor's copy of its gene carries certain mutations, drives abnormal cell growth. Testing tumor tissue (or sometimes blood) for these mutations is standard for non-small-cell lung cancer, because EGFR-mutated tumors respond to EGFR-inhibitor drugs that EGFR-negative tumors generally do not.
